Calderstones Park is not just your average park.
It’s home to ancient megaliths that are said to be older than Stonehenge, these stones are what the park is named after.
These are the ancient remains of a Neolithic burial chamber.
(Neolithic meaning: Later part of the Stone Age, early Iron Age).
You can also find there the Allerton/Law Oak tree.
1000 years ago the Law Court sat under it for trials. The trunk is now hollow and its branches supported by stakes.
Don’t forget the Botanical Gardens either, founded in 1802.
4000 species of plants are here from all over the world.
There is also a lake with geese and Mansion House with a cafe.
Something to do on a warm sunny day. Such an amazing piece of history right on our doorstep…..
