Spring Heeled Jack of Liverpool

You ever heard of Spring Heeled Jack?

Spring Heeled Jack became part of folklore in Liverpool in the Victorian era for terrorising people at night by suddenly appearing by quick high jumps over walls and through alleyways.

There were reports of him snatching babies out of prams and ripping clothes off women and crawling at their skin before jumping off in a flash as fast as he appeared.

Around 1888, in Everton he allegedly appeared on the rooftop of Saint Francis Xavier’s Church in Salisbury Street.

In 1904 there were reports of appearances in nearby William Henry Street.

Spring heeled Jack was rumoured to be James Maybrick who was a Liverpool cotton merchant.

Maybrick was a convicted murderer and also named as a suspect in the Jack the Ripper murders.

No one was ever caught and identified as Spring-heeled Jack.

He exists only in Liverpool folklore or possibly an entry near you!
