The Vampire Graves of Liverpool

Did you know that we have vampire graves in our city?

Liverpool has a long history with vampires and there are people buried with a stake through their heart and positioned face down in the earth.

This was incase they come back to life and started trying to dig their way out. This would then trick them into digging down towards hell instead of finding their way back up to the surface to terrorise the community.

These bizarre burials go back hundreds of years and are dotted around Liverpool in places like Cheapside (One of the side streets by Garlands), Everton and Old Swan.

The reason for this is a few people from the were involved in things like murder-suicides and the drinking of blood from a dead body.

For these crimes in the Victorian days you would be denied a proper Christian burial and would be believed to be undead and capable of coming back.

They would also be buried on a cross road. The cross road being symbolic of the crucifix and this somehow had the power to keep the persons soul locked in this holy ground.

Very strange but true.

There’s so much interesting history about this city if you know where to look.
